Focus meditations are a widespread practice across several meditation lineages, including Buddhist, Yogic, and modern contemplative methods. The objective of focus meditation is to maintain voluntary single-pointed concentration on an object of focus. Typically, this is the sensations of the breath, but may also be a visual image, a part of the body, or a word or phrase.
In essence, Focus involves maintaining sustained attention on an object, and when attention inevitably wanders away from this object, to recognize this and gently bring one’s attention back to the original object of focus.
Focus protocol are created from an amalgamation of traditional meditation studies of Focused Attention within the traditions of Tibetan shamatha, Goenka Anapana-sati, Sahaja yoga, and Zen Zazen. Focus meditations are best suited for those with cognitive issues such as working memory problems, distractibility, and attention deficits.
