Delta (2-4 Hz)
Delta Rule
We reward frontal Delta going down in order to keep attention active while watching the contents of consciousness float by. Being an inhibitory frequency, high frontal Delta can cause drowsiness and mind wandering, thus impeding mindfulness practice (Dunn et al. 1999). Decreased Delta in the front of the brain is a common finding in mindfulness practitioners and is associated with increased brain activation (Cahn 2010).
Delta Weights
Levels 1, 2, and 3 meditators are assigned a rule weight of -1. Level 4 meditators do not need Delta training as slow-frequency drowsiness and mind wandering are not prevalent at their level of mastery.
