Alpha

Alpha (8-12 Hz) Power

Alpha Rule

We reward higher posterior Alpha to enhance relaxation and turn off awareness of the outside world (Ahani et al. 2014,  Fell et al. 2010, Gao et al. 2016, Kerr et al. 2013, Travis & Shear 2010). Alpha waves are prominent in the occipital lobes during wakeful relaxation, especially with eyes closed. Alpha also functions to balance out slow-frequency drowsiness that can lead to sleep rather than alert relaxation.

Alpha Weights

Level 1 & 2 meditators are assigned a rule weight of +1 for this rule.
